Boundaries

So this past weekend my boundaries were put to the test. I had two events booked. One indoors and one outdoors. For those of you who live in the area, you might remember that it had been raining on and off since Wednesday. I thought that meant that the outdoor event was going to be cancelled. Well, it wasn't! I even showed up to see where I was assigned. It was listed as shaded and that can sometimes be under an awning which would have been acceptable. It was under trees.

I told the coordinator that I had paper products and I didn't feel safe putting out my inventory where it might rain. She looked me dead in the eye and said "Oh, it's not going to rain. I've been checking constantly." I said okay and walked to my car. In the couple of minutes that it took to get to my car, my glasses were soaked with the "drizzle". I called Jo for reassurance and then got in the car and drove up to the coordinator. I told her I wasn't staying because it was already sprinkling. That was my boundary, and I'm glad I held it.

🧡 From the Worktable

Because I opted out of the Sunday event, I had some time, so I finished writing a book.

It's called Just Ask: The Everyday Guide to Talking with AI. It started because I kept getting answers from AI that were almost right but not quite. Being a talker, I figured the fix was to type more. It wasn't. I ran out of tokens, paid for more and ran out again. What finally worked was learning to ask clearly, and once I did, it started helping me with everything from meal plans to grant applications for the business.

So I wrote down what I learned, in plain English, for people who don't think of themselves as tech people. It has a simple four-step method, 50 fill-in-the-blank prompts and two printables. If AI has felt like more trouble than it's worth, this might help. If not, no worries. I'll be back at the sewing machine next week. I added the link at the end of the newsletter, in case you are interested.
